Undefeated year

[edit]

It was my sophomore year at Boone High School in Orlando, Florida, and it was nearing the time of year when winter sports were holding tryouts. I had played on the Basketball team my freshman year, but hardly got time on the floor. Regardless, showing up to tryouts I had confidence because I knew I had worked hard to have a starting spot on the JV squad.

I knew what it took to be an impact player on the team, and I knew I would have some good players surrounding me. I remember on the first day of practice, coach emphasized that we had a long way to go in order to be a good team in our conference, but we were willing to work!

After seven games we were 7-0, and had dominated every team we faced. As the season went on, our coach hadn't let up, our practices were just as difficult as they were before our first game. Coach always preached practicing how we play, and this was definitely our key to success.

We kept rolling through the season and ended up 20-0 after 20 games, including a big win over our rival, Edgewater High School. Going into our final game, we had our sights on 21-0. At halftime we were up 15 points and we ended our season perfect. To this day, I am grateful for the amazing relationships and memories I made with my teammates and coaches.
