Boriana Mine (Abandoned)
[edit]The Boriana mine is an abandoned mining outfit in the central part of the Hualapai Mountains of Arizona. It is situated in the Boriana Tungsten Mining District about 20 miles southeast of Kingman, AZ. While open, it consisted of nine levels and three sublevels, penetrating to a depth of 1100 feet with more than 15,500 feet of horizontal workings.
History
[edit]Discovery and Yucca Tungsten Period (1908-1919)
[edit]Talk about how discovery of tungsten deposits was known before mine opening, time of discovery unknown. Perhaps repeat in geology section. Focus on history here. Finish with "low postwar tungsten prices made mining unprofitable."
Sievers Period (1929-1937)
[edit]Talk about reopening and amount of tungsten produced on state/national level.
Molybdenum Corporation of America Period (1937-1943)
[edit]Talk about the purchase of the mine, and also how it burned down right after it was purchased.
Dye and Bathrick Period
[edit]Re-openings that never happened.
Geology
[edit]Talk about the mountain range and its geology here. Talk specifically about tungsten in wolframite form, but stick to mine information.
Need to take a 12 hour drive now. Hopefully the truck doesn't fall apart.
