Robert Olatunji Adebowale
Robert Olatunji Adebowale (March 10, 1910-1April 14, 987), popularly known as “Robin,” was Nigerian pharmacist and optician.
Pharmacy and Optical Career
Adebowale attended the Pharmacy School, Lagos, Nigeria, where he qualified as a Pharmacists. He was a notable pharmacist in Nigeria [Health Professional in Nigeria, An Interdisciplinary Analysis by Joseph Abiodun Balogun, page 110]. Around 1944 to 1947, Adebowale went to London and qualified as an optician as well. He was a founding father, shareholder/ Chief Managing Director of Commercial Medicine Stores, Limited (Registered in 1958) for 29 years. Commercial Medicine Stores Limited was a retail pharmacy business in Nigeria, registered as a Limited Liability Company in 1958 [Memorandum and Articles of Association of Commercial Medicine stores Limited to be attached). He also served as the National Treasurer of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria from 1955 to 1965. Adebowale was a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. This is considered the highest professional award of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. Commercial Medicine Stores Limited was a retail pharmacy establishment registered and operated in Lagos, Nigeria from the period 1950 to 2012. The Motto of the company was service, civility, and satisfaction. The mission of the two founding fathers was encapsulated in the above three words of the Motto.
Commercial Medicine Stores Limited
[edit]Adebowale's name was synonymous with Commercial Medicine Stores Limited and the pharmacies associated with Commercial Medicine Stores Limited (especially the main branch in Lagos) was sometimes referred to as "Adebowale Medicine Store," because he was totally committed to the company and very instrumental in the success of the company. Commercial Medicine Stores Limited was a retail pharmacy establishment registered in 1958 and operated in Lagos, Nigeria from the period 1958 to 2012. The company was started by Robert Olatunji Adebowale and Mr. Solomon Tanimomo Hunponu-Wusu who was also a pharmacist. Adebowale and Hunponu-Wusu worked together as pharmacists at the West African Drugs Company Limited (a British subsidiary) in the 1940’s. They decided to leave and establish a pharmacy company to be called Commercial Medicine Stores. Mr. O.Onayemi (a business man) and Dr. (Mrs) A.Awoliyi (a physician) were invited as shareholders and made non-executive directors of the company. A fifth shareholder/director, Chief A.I. Kinoshi was later appointed in 1983. Adebowale who was also an optician introduced optical services into the retail component of Commercial Medicine Stores, Limited and this also generated a significant source of revenue for the company..
After the death of the founding fathers including, Adebowale in 1987, and the other directors, the company was managed by the children who inherited the shares from their respective parents. The company succeeded in giving 54 years (1958-2012) of continued community pharmacy service to the people of Nigeria.
Real Estate Business Career
[edit]Adebowale was also the founder and Managing Director of Robert Properties Limited and Fulani Properties, Limited, real estate businesses in Lagos {Attach the copy of the page of the Memorandum and Articles of Association that shows the registration of these companies]. These two real estate companies provided affordable rental properties for different communities in Lagos. The companies were successfully managed by the Estate of Late Adebowale, including his children until 2016.
Personal Life
[edit]Robert Olatunji Adebowale was married and had multiple children. He died at the age of 77 in Lagos, at his home, on April 14, 1987.
