[edit]- Centennial Light, the oldest known continuously operating light bulb. First illuminated in 1901. Before the Phoebus cartel conspired to reduced the lifetime of a bulb to around 1,000-hours.
- Scots Wikipedia, a US teenager wrote over 23,000 articles on the Scottish Wikipedia. Described as "English written in a Scottish accent," with gibberish and nonsensical words and spellings not present in any Scots dialect.
- While at school, Alan Macmasters edited the Wikipedia page about popup toasters to falsely claim he was the inventor The story caught on to the extent that he was nominated to appear on a £50 note.
- A online competition was started to decide the name of the an artic research ship - Boaty McBoatface was the winning name. The unimaginative response was to ignore the poll and it is now called the RRS Sir David Attenborough. The Boaty McBoatface story has inspired a multitude of other names.
