Harlem Graffiti Hall of Fame

Street art, fine art, and graffiti are types of unique art. Although they are all art, they are displayed in different ways. Street art[1] is a type of art that is displayed in the outdoor environment such as buildings, sidewalks, walls, and many other places outdoors. Fine art[2] is paintings, sculptures, drawings that are usually displayed in museums and galleries and it is created for more of an aesthetic purpose. Graffiti [3]can also be a type of art that is displayed outdoors but graffiti is more of a form of visual communication and it includes text or images on outdoor surfaces.

Graffiti Vs Street Art

Graffiti is oftentimes looked at as vandalism and portrayed as something negative but it takes a lot of creativity and talent. Graffiti is usually used with spray paint and it displays text and/or images. Street art is typically more accepted than graffiti and it can include murals, portraits, paintings, landscapes and many more. Graffiti artists sometimes use a popular form of graffiti called tagging and this is a graffiti artist’s signature. Usually graffiti is done without permission and street art is normally done with the permission of someone[7]. Although they have their differences and similarities they are two unique types of art.
