ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT DESIGN

The Environmental Impact Design is a movement concerned with the design of projects that would benefit the environment in a positive way. People around the world currently do everyday actions that help the Environmental Impact Design. Examples of positive impacts include:

·        Hydrokinetic energy conservation systems

·        Steam Ship Efficiency

·        Self-Cleaning hybrid energy harvester

·        Self-cleaning Ocean

All of these inventions have been created to stop the rise of pollution in our world, people are becoming more informed that the environment does need help. Which is why there have been plentiful acts to help start the Environmental Impact Design reach its peek to help the earth stay green.

How the Inventions work

For these inventions and ideas that are created, there is also a purpose. Reasons that this type of pollution prevention shall become the next big environmental help. A brief explanation of these inventions.

Hydrokinetic energy conservation systems:

The hydrokinetic energy conversion system has capabilities to supply inevitable and secured power which is obtained from free stream like ocean, river, and man-made channel. The performance of the system would lead to a near endless supply of easy, accessible energy. The thought of Hydrokinetic energy is to become a source of power that has a superior cut in generation cost compared to what is being run now.

Steam Ship Efficiency:

Energy efficiency is a crucial part of our world and of the maritime industry. Cutting down the use of diesel ships would be beneficial to the world from a environmentalists stand point. Also to a ship company owner. The reason being is that when ships run on diesel fuel, it burns the crude oil that’s mixed in to make diesel and releases toxins into the air. With the industry converting back to steam ships, the industry would save a lot of money from not spending it on fuel and the environment would be less poisoned from industrialization[1]. Both sides benefit from the switch.Steam engines can cost more than diesel engines do, but lower fuel cost can make up for that, and the cost differences get smaller as the outputs get larger

Self-Cleaning Hybrid Energy Harvester:

This is yet again another way to get sustainable energy security. Conventional solar cell and triboelectric Nano generator harvest water drop energy based on superhydrophoic surface, are hybridized to generate considerable power even on rainy days. The potential of water–TENG in harvesting actual raindrop energy, is investigated various liquid including actual rainwater and flowing tap water. Self-cleaning effect of hybrid cell is experimentally examined for the first time and hybrid cell successfully harvests light and water energy without any unwanted cross-effect. It is an efficient idea for clean sustainable energy[2]. You have the solar panels for when it is sunny outside. Than for the days when it is cloudy and rainy it can also get energy from the raindrops themselves.

Self-Cleaning Ocean:

The biggest pollution cleanup in history has been started. Millions of tons of plastic are scattered throughout the ocean today. It’s also not degradable so it sits in water polluting the seas. So people from The Ocean Clean Up have created a floating network of barriers that collect the plastic and takes it to be recycled. Studies show in approximately 20 years the entire ocean as a whole would be plastic free[3]. “Prevention is an essential part of stopping plastic pollution. By regularly informing the public about the development of our cleanup technology, The Ocean Cleanup is raising awareness of the plastic pollution problem and promoting prevention.”One of the main issues they are tackling at The Ocean Cleanup is to determine where, and in what concentrations, plastic pollution is distributed throughout the oceans. In order to clean up the worlds’ ocean garbage patches effectively, we need to get a crystal clear picture of where we should start. To achieve this they are building a computer model. By simulating the influx and velocity of ocean plastics and interaction with the barrier, we are using an efficient method to test and optimize different designs, setups, locations and geographical orientations of The Ocean Cleanup array. This technology for the big scale is currently in the testing phase. But they have already deployed a small scale one for a test run.

Reasons for Environmental Impact Design:

The whole reason why environmental impact design is a movement is for the fact that the world is becoming more and more polluted and now there are ways to reverse what we can do. Also after when the world starts to make sure that they need to make the world clean, the can prevent it from happening again.  All of these ideas and inventions can help change the world and that is what the purpose of Environmental Impact Design is.
