FANS Foundation is one of the leading Canadian-American non-profit organisations[1] in North America in relation to athletic opportunities for children. More specifically, the FANS Foundation is an organization focused on facilitating access to sports for immigrant newcomer youth in Canada[2]. Their initiatives include providing sports education, equipment, and experiences to promote community building and the development of lifelong skills. The foundation has worked with over 500 immigrant newcomers from various parts of the world.[3]

Background

[edit]

The FANS Foundation began in 2017, and is a shortened accronym for "Full Access for Newcomers to Sports"[4]. The foundation conducts giveaways to supply immigrant newcomer youth with sports equipment, eliminating barriers to their participation in sports activities[5]. Monthly newsletters are used as a means of communication, sharing information about upcoming events, success stories, and engagement opportunities within the community.

FANS Foundation organizes events such as sporting camps to offer immersive experiences and skill development for participants. Additionally, the foundation extends invitations to hockey games, providing newcomers with the opportunity to engage in the Canadian sporting culture.[6]

Regular bi-weekly volunteer meetings[7] are held to facilitate community involvement and support the foundation's mission. The foundation also hosts get-together parties with newcomer children, fostering connections and celebrating diversity within the FANS community.

Development and Organisation

[edit]

Beginning as a small non-profit, the FANS Foundation grew in the upcoming years, expanding into the former school of both co-founders, as well as it's online presence through social media and giveaways.
