Leviticus Disease ...
There is a variant of gout that is often referred to as "Leviticus Disease" among some individuals. These individuals suffer from elevated uric acid in the body only when they eat foods forbidden by the dietary laws in the book of Leviticus. It appears as if this variant of gout may be genetic and run primarily through the male side of certain families. The history and background of this condition is difficult to trace outside of vague references in diaries and family records due to cultural issues with antisemitism.
Some of these individuals can relieve the condition by drinking black cherry juice.
