From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1938 Kyushu leaflet drop occurred in May 1938 when two Republic of China Air Force Martin 139 bomber planes, led by captain Hsu Huan-sheng (徐焕升), flew to Kyushu, Japan carrying carrying leaflets condemning Japanese war crimes in China and called for solidarity from the Japanese people. A secondary objective was to identify Japanese airfields and ports in Kyushu. The mission was successfully completed with little Japanese resistance, and both planes managed to return to China safely. The incident been noted by Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki in the manga story Kyūshū Jōkū no Jūgōsakuki which was published in Hayao Miyazaki's Daydream Data Notes.
