Guru Digital Arts College is a private digital media school located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Founded in 2002, it has developed a strong list of graduates who have entered every aspect of digital media production. The college offers a unique "mentor-based" learning experience where students are encouraged to discover their unique skills and talents to develop their portfolio with. Guru achieves this through small class sizes (<20 students) and longer, focused study sessions (each class is 3.5 hours long).
History
[edit]Guru Digital Arts College began with only one classroom and one program, Digital Media Production. Since that time, Guru is selectively adding new programs that focus on niche approaches to digital media roles. In January 2009, the college introduced its "Interaction Design and Game Level Development" program that explores the common skills used by both interaction designers and game designers.
Guru has been increasingly involved in the Edmonton community working with various non-profit organizations to bring student projects into the school including the Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival, Edmonton Ski Club, International Centre for Responsible Tourism Canada, and the City of Edmonton. As well, Guru is involved with the Works International Arts Festival and the Edmonton International Film Festival.
Programs
[edit]Guru is currently offering two programs, Digital Media Production - a 6 month immersive program focused on print, web, and rich media design, Interaction Design and Game Level Development - a 6 month immersive program focused on the "industrial design" of applications and games.
