Samuel Colman, Publisher
Samuel Colman II was a 19th century book publisher. His father was Dr. Samuel Colman (1762-1810). He was born in 1799 in Augusta, ME but moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he died in 1865. His son, Samuel Colman (1832-1920), also known as Samuel Colman Jr., was a well-known artist, a painter of the “Hudson River School”. Notably, his older brother William A. Colman (1789-1850), was also a publisher and bookseller in New York.
