Omer Aftab[edit]

Omer AftabItalic text (Urdu: عمر آفتاب); born 1970) is a Pakistani social entrepreneur [1] and campaign strategist.[2][3]. Omer is known for his unique interventions for [justice] along with strategic campaigns he has created to combat [issues] including Pink Ribbon National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign[4], White Ribbon Men’s Movement for Ending Violence Against Women[5][6][7], formation of first Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Pakistan[8][9] and National Initiative EHAD on Health and Behavior Issues of Youth. He is the only Pakistani professional who has been awarded the Front Line Golden World Award by International Public Relations Association – IPRA for his achievements.

Early Life[edit]

Mr. Omer Aftab (The CEO of WEG), was born in 1970 in Lahore. Omer got his early education from Divisional Public School. During his education in DPS, he remained engaged in an array of social and extracurricular activities. Developing Old Publican Society in DPS and presiding the society for three years excel his inner skills of a natural campaigner and PR specialist for development.

Omer received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Marketing and another degree in Science – Mathematics. He has done his Master’s in Business Administration – Marketing. Omer also received a degree in Social Enterprise Management from LUMS-McGill and a fellowship from ACSU Seattle USA.

Getting his feet wet in the family’s business and handling the tough crisis at an early age helped him to develop strong leadership, communication, and management skills.

Career[edit]

·       1999 - There was a major need to address the pressing issues of the women so Omer developed Women’s Empowerment Group (WEG) to strengthen the process of socio- economic development and empowerment of the disadvantaged women of the society at the grassroots level through the transfer of knowledge.

·       2003 - Omer and Women Empowerment Group took a historic leap for women empowerment and established Pakistan’s first Women Chamber of Commerce.

·       2005 - Omer was appointed as Director at PIELLE Consulting UK.

·      2006 - Omer organized an International masterclass on liver transplantation and liver diseases.

·      2008 - Omer developed a strong affiliation with media and involved media as a strategic partner for the Women Protection Program, a joint venture of the Social Welfare Department Punjab and GTZ on 8th March.

Projects[edit]

Pink Ribbon Pakistan[edit]

In 2004, a non-funded, self-sustained campaign Pink Ribbon was initiated by Omer Aftab. Omer has generated funds and is building a dedicated hospital for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in Lahore, Pakistan. Efforts of Omer were recognized by government women’s health issues and Breast Cancer became a national agenda. Eighteen years of Omer’s efforts finally made the Pink Ribbon Campaign accepted and renowned all over Pakistan.

White Ribbon Pakistan[edit]

White Ribbon Pakistan was initiated by Omer Aftab in 2006 with a purpose to create awareness particularly among men and boys regarding domestic violence and violation of women's rights.

EHAD[edit]

Omer took the initiative to break the silence around sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in families and communities and started EHAD- A Resolve to better upbringing of Children, to highlight the importance of providing our adolescent information on the matters related to sexual and reproductive health.
