Lauro S. Halstead, MD
Lauro Halstead was living in White Plains, NY in 1954, when he came down with Poliomyelitis at age 18. While he spent a few weeks in an iron lung, only his right arm had significant paralysis afterwards. He walked out of the hospital 6 months later with some weakness in his limbs.[1]
He found that he enjoyed Rehabilitation Medicine early in his career. "Dr. Halstead was a founding member of the Medstar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D. C. from which he recently retired after nearly 30 years."[2]
Dr. Halstead has treated Polio survivors and others for the past couple of decades. He can identify with the problems and help with possible solutions. [3]
