Mary Mitchell O'Connor is running as a Fine Gael Candidate in the forthcoming general election in the Dunlaoghaire constituency, she is running alongside long serving Fine Gael TD Sean Barrett. Ms Mitchell O'Connor has been school principal of The Harold School in Glasthule County Dublin since 1999, and has been a sitting councillor on Dunlaoghaire County Council for the past 7 years. Councillor Mitchell O'Connor has worked very hard within her community she has fought for investment in Dun Laoghaire ‘s built environment and for a focus, through the planning system, on integrated development processes that provides for quality public open spaces, playgrounds, libraries and other local amenities.
Mary Mitchell O’Connor has worked to bring about higher standards of building regulations locally to improve the quality of new buildings and to ensure environmental as well as social and economic sustainability.
She can point to demonstrable achievements in the areas of planning, including the protection of open green spaces , provision of playgrounds, local road improvements, footpath restoration, libraries, Sandycove Tidy Towns, parking provisions, Glasthule Opera and Dun Laoghaire Baths. She has also campaigned against inappropriate high rise planning which was injurious to the local existing form of neighbouring two storey houses. She hopes to use the experiences garnered from been a school principal and a councillor affectively to represent the people of Dunlaoghaire in Dail Eireann.
