Hans Daniel Namuhuja Secondary School Hans Daniel Naumuhuja is a school that is located in the Oniipa Constituency in the Oshikoto region. It is a secondary school, named after the Oshindonga speaker, Hans Daniel Namuhuja, who was highly educated and the first to obtain a Degree (BA) in the whole of Ovamboland. Being an academic, he was one of the few outstanding poets, novelists and teacher by profession. He was a highly educated man who was very fond of education. Hans Daniel Namuhuja is the only secondary school in Oniipa and it is a school that caters children’s educational needs. The school that is being spoken about first started with the upper primary grades from grade five to grade seven in the years of 1980, transforming into a Junior Secondary School from the years 1990-2006, catering the grades eight to ten. Finally due to the dire need of the education at the senior secondary level, the school responded to the parents’ outcry, for those respective grades to be catered at the school too. The school had provided education to so many children from the surrounding and nearby respective villages. This school made it easier for the greater number of teachers who acquired the education training during the time of its establishment, from the then Ongwediva Teachers Training College, to find a full time job in order to make a living. The school was headed by many different school masters at different periods. The first was Mr. Kapwepwe, followed by Mr. Ngulu .Currently, the school is headed by Mr. Shipena, who is also one of the best teachers at the school, making the famous statement “leading by example” believable. The school lies just 400 metres from the main road to Oshigambo, on the junction that is opposite the Oniipa Parish. Before one gets to Onandjokwe Lutheran hospital on the same road, one has to see a bill board written Hans Daniel Namuhuja SS and the shortest distance to get there of just 400 m. Hans Daniel has produced so many responsible adult citizens, who are now employed in different sectors such as the education sector, the medical sector, just to mention but a few. These two sectors are greatly represented because the young residents were without doubt, highly influenced and motivated by their parents and guardians who were mostly employed to be nursed or teachers and less likely as pastors. Hans Daniel is a beautiful school in terms of both academic and geographic levels. What is exciting the most is the fact that, so many parents bring their children to this school, taking them from the other schools, simply because of its good reputation through its good performance and leadership. It is a government school and a non-boarding school, but its performance competes with that of private schools. It has also received many awards both regionally and nationally through its brilliant learners’ and teachers’ hard work, dedication and perseverance in excellent academic input.
