The Tempe City Council consists of a mayor and eight city council members. Both the mayor and council members are elected by the city at-large.[1] The current mayor of Tempe is Mark Mitchell, a Democrat. The mayor sits on the council and acts as its presiding officer.[1]

History

Tempe held its first municipal elections in 1896.[2] In the following decades a series of municipal services were set up.
