Storylines

[edit]

In July 1981, Victor (Penghlis) orders his henchmen to track down Alexandria Quartermaine (Renee Anderson) as she is in possession of the Ice Princess diamond.[1] He later shoots WSB agent Brighton O'Reilly (Billie Hayes) leaving her to die in front of her partner Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers). Victor later joins his brother Mikkos on a private island accompanied by his latest lover, actress Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt). When Mikkos announces his plans to use the diamond to power his weather machine which he would use to hold the world at ransom, starting with Port Charles. However, with Tiffany's help, Scorpio, and his friends Luke and Laura (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis) arrive in time to sabotage the Cassadines' plans. While Mikkos, Tony and Alexandria are killed, Victor is arrested and sent to prison.[2]

Development

[edit]

Creation and casting

[edit]

Penghlis made his debut on July 8, 1981.[1] Fresh off a miniseries, in the midst of an actors' strike, Penghlis initially auditioned to play Tony, but Landzaat won the role instead. After Colicos was hired to play Mikkos, Monty expressed in finding another actor to play a third brother and that role went to Penghlis.[3]

In December 2013, Soap Opera Digest announced Penghlis was to reprise the role for the first time since 1981. The actor was due on set in early 2014 and was slated to reappear on January 30, 2014.[4] Penghlis began production on January 6, 2014 and filmed six episodes over the course of five days.[5]

Personality

[edit]

In 1984, David Church described Victor as "one of the diabolical Cassadines."[6]

Introduction

[edit]

Decades later, Penghlis said of his introduction, "Gloria Monty took to me. She was so kind to me." Victor also found romance in Wyatt's Tiffany. "I loved working with" Wyatt Penghlis said in 2020. "We had a great time together." Penghlis explained that Monty had planned for the character's future. "Other Cassadines were killed off, but not Victor."[3] She told the actor, "We're going to send [Victor] off to prison for a short while and then we're going to have you come back. We love your character." However, "the character of Victor was short-lived" because "I chose to leave to go to DAYS, so you never really knew what he was about." Penghlis reminisced about his time on the soap: "I remember John Colicos, who was such a wonderful actor, playing my older brother Mikkos, and the younger one played by André Landzaat, and Tristan Rogers and that whole Ice Princess story." The story's popularity made it "a lot of fun" for the actor.[5]
