During this time, he played a crucial role in advancing biomedical research within the institution, contributing extensively to the field.

At the same time, Nahum Méndez-Sánchez was engaged in clinical research, notably as a Clinical Researcher in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Salvador Zubiran National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition, as well as the Medica Sur Clinic and Foundation.

Since 1997, Nahum Méndez-Sánchez has also served as a Professor in Master's and Doctorate programs specializing in gastroenterology and hepatology at UNAM.

Nahum Méndez-Sánchez has served on the editorial boards of several prestigious scientific journals, including the American Journal of Gastroenterology, the Journal of Hepatology, and Gastroenterology. As the founder of the Annals of Hepatology, he has established a significant platform for disseminating cutting-edge research on liver diseases. His influence extends beyond publishing; he is a frequent chair and speaker at major international conferences. Additionally, Nahum Méndez-Sánchez is dedicated to mentoring young researchers and clinicians, playing a pivotal role in fostering the next generation of experts in liver disease.

As a emeritus researcher of the National System of Researchers (SNI), Nahum Méndez-Sánchez has participated in multiple national and international research projects. He has more than 17,000 citations and an h-index of 56. His extensive research contributions span various aspects of liver diseases, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), alcohol-related liver disease (ALD), viral hepatitis, bilirubin metabolism, and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). Through his leadership and collaboration, he continues to drive innovation and excellence in hepatology research.
