The route is made up of four segments: a divided four lane highway that runs through the Huntsville subdivision of Hampton Cove; a narrow two lane road with multiple one-lane bridges; a narrow two lane road that runs parallel to U.S. Route 431; and, what is the city of New Hope's Main Drive.

Road Description

[edit]

The first segment of Old U.S. 431, which has secondary name of 'Eastern Bypass,' starts in Southeast Huntsville, at the intersection of U.S. Route 431 and Sutton Road, running east. Since the development of the Hampton Cove subdivision, the road has been upgraded to a four-lane divided highway, running through the Big Cove Creek greenway and pass Hampton Cove Elementary School. The route has a wide median with bike trails running parallel to it.

Old 431 breaks off and continues to the south east as the four lane highway continues to the north east with the name 'Eastern Bypass' near Cove Park. The road runs pass the Flint River greenway and runs over the Flint river with multiple one-lane bridges. Old 431 then intersects Cherry Tree Road and continues south, running through the community of Berkley. This second segment of Old 431 ends at U.S. Route 431.

The third segment of US 431 begins just a few hundred feet south of where the second segment ends. This segment runs parallel with US Route 431 until they intersection again, and, as a result, little traffic travels this segment of Old 431, which will soon be upgraded to have bike paths along the road. The road continues south, meeting Old Big Cove Road and Wilson Mann Road in Owens Cross Roads. Continuing south for nearly three miles, Old 431 meets Hobbs Island Road, and then US Route 431.

After intersecting US Route 431, Old 431 continues southeast with the name 'Main Drive,' continuing into the city of New Hope.
