Dr Nalaka Godahewa Dr Nalaka Godahewa was appointed the Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority in May 2010. He was the first Chairman to be appointed to this highly responsible and prestigious position by the President of the country after the government of Sri Lanka defeated terrorism and ended a 26 year long internal conflict. Prior to this appointment Dr Nalaka Godahewa held the position of Managing Director of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Limited, the largest insurance company in Sri Lanka. He was appointed the competent authority of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation in June 2008 when a land mark Supreme Court judgment returned the ownership of the organization back to the state. Dr Nalaka Godahewa also served on the Boards of Urban Development Authority, Colombo Land (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board, CSC Kandia (Pvt) Ltd, Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC . His previous assignments include Director/ CEO positions at multinational Unilever, leading telecommunication services provider Suntel, and the apparel giant MAS Holdings. He has also functioned as a board member of the Seylan Bank during the turnaround period of 2008-2009 where Central Bank took control of the bank and appointed a group of young dynamic professionals to the Board . Academically qualified in three different management disciplines of Engineering, Marketing and Finance, Dr Godahewa holds a BSc honours degree in Electronics and telecommunication Engineering from the Moratuwa University, an MBA from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and a PhD from the University of South Australia in addition to being a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing of UK and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Australia. Dr Godahewa held several honorary positions including Chairman of local branch of Global Marketing Network, President of the Sri Lanka branch of the Institute of the Certified Management Accountants of Australia and Chairman of the association of licensed bunker operators of Sri Lanka. He was a member of the Advisory Council of the Management Faculty of University of Keleniya and also a Senior Lecturer at the Post Graduate Institute of Management of University of Sri Jayawardanepura.
