Harold L. Miller, Jr., LP.D., is a passionate educator and visionary leader devoted to empowering young people to achieve their fullest potential. Since 2001, he has held various leadership positions within Boston Public Schools (BPS), including Teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal, Head of School, Senior Director, and is currently serving as an Assistant Superintendent. Throughout his career, Dr. Miller has been focused on transforming schools with a particular emphasis on supporting students with disabilities and other historically underserved populations, cultivating academic excellence and personal growth.
In 2023, Dr. Miller founded Miller, Miller & Miller, LLC, a consulting firm that provides educational services for students, families, and organizations across Boston and New England. Through this work, he has helped guide schools and organizations in implementing practices that empower students to excel academically and socially by consulting and coaching educational leaders and practitioners.
Dr. Miller has contributed to the development of future educators as a Lecturer and University Practicum Supervisor at Northeastern University’s School of Education. His higher education experience also includes coaching. He served as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Assumption College and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Bunker Hill Community College, where he helped student-athletes succeed both academically and on the court.
Dr. Miller’s research focused on the lived experiences of Black male alumni, aged 25-50, who had received special education services in Boston Public Schools. This qualitative study aimed to improve educational practices and policies for historically deprived students by exploring the perspectives of these individuals.
Dr. Miller earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, a Master's Degree in Education, and a Doctorate Degree in Law and Policy, all from Northeastern University. As a proud Triple Husky and former Captain of the Men's Basketball Team, he scored over 1,000 points at Northeastern and ranked among the top leaders in assists, three-pointers made, and three-point percentage. He received the prestigious Reggie Lewis Award for his leadership on and off the court. At Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, CT, Miller led the team to a State Championship in 1995, earning MVP honors as well as All-State, All-City, and All-NVL recognition during his junior and senior seasons. In addition to basketball, he excelled in baseball and earned All-City honors in soccer.
Dr. Miller is dedicated to educating and empowering young people across Boston, MA, Waterbury, CT, and New England. He believes strongly in the potential of every individual, stating, “I am honored to help provide our young people with what they need to reach their full potential.” He also emphasizes the importance of self-empowerment, adding, “Every individual has a gift. We must help people help themselves toward their purpose.”
In addition to his professional work in education, Dr. Miller has contributed his time and expertise by serving on the boards of the Boston Education Fund (BEDF) and Holy Cross High School. He also co-chairs the SPARK Capital Campaign at Park School in Brookline, MA. His commitment to youth development is further demonstrated through his role as a youth girls' soccer coach with Dorchester Youth Soccer. Originally from Waterbury, CT, Dr. Miller currently lives in Dorchester, MA, with his wife Lesley and daughter Laila.
