User:Natalie Erin/Cheri DiNovo vandal

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cheri DiNovo vandal originally targeted the article Cheri DiNovo until it was indefinitely protected. The vandal then moved on to various articles directly or indirectly connected to DiNovo and their opinions of her.

When warned the vandal will either replace their entire talk page with insults, with edit summaries like "piss off wikiwanker", "bitchslapped a fascist", or "fuck you nazi", or will personally attack the user who warned them, with similar edit summaries. If blocked, either the blocked IP will replace its talk page with insults, or one of the other IPs will show up and do the same. The reference to "NDP attack queers" is a regular one; this is a reference to the New Democratic Party in Canada.

They have also occasionally inserted attack edits against Wikipedia administrators directly into articles, e.g. Minnesota ([1]), Durian ([2]), Ronald Reagan ([3]) and Wassermann test ([4]).

Admins who encounter this vandal should block them on sight; non admins should report them immediately to WP:AIV regardless of the number of warnings received. Feel free to reference this page. The blocked IP's talk page should be sprotected for the duration of the block. Extended IP blocks are ineffective, as they have access to several different computers, some with dynamically assigned addresses.

This vandal occasionally disappears for months at a time. Most recently, the vandal ceased editing in the June or July of 2007, only to reappear in early November. These disappearances are usually marked by a change in article targets, although the edits still consist of the same irrational hatred of Cheri DiNovo.

As of 2013, the article is under indefinite protection; however, the same user is still occasionally posting the very same BLP violations to the article's talk page and still vandalizing the user talk pages of administrators who have been involved in the dispute.

IP numbers

[edit]

Issues

[edit]

The user(s) have three essentially unrelated campaigns going on at once. They are known to be the same person, as the IP numbers sometimes overlap and their conduct is markedly consistent across all three matters.

Cheri DiNovo

[edit]

targets (diff is an example of their typical vandalism):

Another tactic they have attempted was to add neutral references to DiNovo into unrelated articles, such as The New Yorker [18], Earth, Wind and Fire [19] or List of people on stamps of Costa Rica [20], and then use her inclusion there as an attempt to undermine the credibility of anybody who got involved in reverting, under the false pretense that the other person had added DiNovo to the article in question. [21]

Michael Prue

[edit]

The second matter involves the same user's insistence on labelling an incident from a byelection campaign in 2001 as a smear campaign committed by Michael Prue against opponent Robert Hunter. Although some media outlets have alleged that Prue's campaign was the source of the controversial press release, no media outlet has ever been able to confirm this claim and it therefore fails WP:V.

The user did describe this matter as a tit-for-tat re: DiNovo, but it is fundamentally a separate issue.

A POV interpretation linking both the Prue and DiNovo matters was also inserted into smear campaign. [25]

Jonah Goldberg

[edit]

Although unrelated to the above dispute, the same user(s) also targeted Jonah Goldberg with an unsourced claim that Lyndon B. Johnson is his biological father. This was added to Jonah Goldberg, Lyndon B. Johnson, Lucianne Goldberg and National Review.

Other

[edit]

User also has a strange determination to insert the phrase "He was a ruddy country gentleman with tremendous gusto and a gift for energetic doggerel" into Charles Lamb Kenney ([30]) and Meggie Cleary ([31]). One can only guess exactly what relevance a phrase used to describe a 1587 translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses could possibly have to The Thorn Birds.

User has also now begun inserting POV commentary into the article on former Canadian radio host David Wisdom, describing the subject as a "git" and removing proper formatting on the existing reference. ([32]).

Starting in January 2009, the same user has begun editing Grenada to describe the US invasion of same as "illegal". Edit summaries and behavior once warned or blocked indicate this is the same person.
