Shonto Begay is a Navajo artist from Arizona. His artistic career began in 1983, and his artistic focus is painting. His art features landscapes and other cultural elements of Navajo life, but he also paints the harsh realities of being a Native American in the United States. Shonto Begay is also an author an illustrator; his career began when he illustrated The Mud Pony in 1988. Lastly, Shonto is an educator, as he gives talks and workshops in order to inspire the young and to help them see the importance of art.
