Dante Galicia
[edit]David Jahaziel Galicia, also known as Dante Galicia, was born on February 24, 1989, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, coinciding with Mexican Flag Day. He is the youngest of three children, with two older sisters. His parents come from families that founded the city of Monterrey and are descendants of Sephardic Jews of Portuguese and Spanish origin, granting him dual Mexican and Portuguese nationality.
From an early age, Galicia demonstrated a profound love for art, music, drawing, and painting, as well as a notable interest in world history. These artistic inclinations and his "old soul" personality amazed those who knew him.
Academic Background
[edit]Galicia pursued two university degrees: Marketing at the Universidad Tecnológica de Escobedo (UTE)[1] and Graphic Design at the Universidad del Valle de México.(Cumbres)[2]. His life was marked by frequent relocations due to his father’s work, allowing him to live in various cities across Mexico and experience different cultures. During his adolescence, he lived in Canada, in cities such as Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal, experiences that enriched his global perspective.
Professional Career
[edit]In 2015, Galicia moved to New York City after receiving a job offer. During a visit to Lincoln Center, inspired by the nearby Dante Park and his admiration for Dante Alighieri, he adopted the name Dante as part of his artistic and professional identity. He began working in advertising agencies and prominent fashion houses, where he developed his passion for design and fashion.
Founding of Dante Galicia
[edit]In 2020, amidst the pandemic, he founded his own brand: Dante Galicia[3]. Initially, the company specialized in face masks with designs inspired by pre-Hispanic cultures of Mexico, achieving great success during that period. Later, he expanded the brand’s offerings to high-quality silk scarves, based on the tradition of the Tree of Life, "Árbol de la Vida"[4]. With bold and daring designs, Galicia uses his work to express the beauty and vitality of life through high quality silk.
Legacy and Philosophy
[edit]Dante Galicia[5], has established himself as a multifaceted creator who blends his cultural roots with a modern and global approach. He continues to grow his brand, expanding his designs to draw inspiration from the cultural richness of the world. His work reflects a deep admiration for history and cultural traditions while positioning himself as an innovator in the world of design and fashion.
