Lita Ford's follow-up to the ex-Runaways' 2012 eighth studio album Living Like a Runaway, the aptly named Time Capsule shares its predecessor's predilection for getting back to basics. That's because the 10 tracks -- the first track contains a spoken word bit featuring ex-husband/W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes -- that make up the LP are of the archival variety. Culled from a cache of 24-track analog tapes that Ford discovered languishing away in a closet in her Caribbean home, Time Capsule serves as both a gift to fans and an undiluted, if a little rough around the edges, snapshot of the artist jamming with her famous friends at her stiletto-heeled commercial peak. Raunchy, melodramatic, convivial, swaggering, and silly, there really is some great material here, specifically the Bic-melting power ballad "Where Will I Find My Heart Tonight," a duet with Jeff Scott Soto, the hook-filled "Killin' Kind," which features bass legend Billy Sheehan and Jane's Addiction's Dave Navarro on mandolin, and "Rotten to the Core," co-written and featuring Gene Simmons. A handful of decent instrumentals -- Ford has always been a top-notch and underrated guitar player -- that includes an all-star jam session cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" may feel a little like padding, but there's a certain joy in hearing these musicians, who were at the top of their game, kicking back and kicking it out."Cite error: A <ref>
