From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"An Osprey Hoots" is one of the most famouse poem in the Book of the Songs, written in the pre-qing dynasty, and the author remains unknown. The poem describes a talented man's affection towards a mild-mannerned girl who was at that time busy picking up the banana-plant on the islet of River Yellow. As at that time of ancient China ,people could hardly speak their feelings out but had to control it because of the strict social institution. So,this poem marks great breakthrough to the style of the poem at that time but also to the development of the society especially in the mental area.Since then, more and more poems begin to freely deal with love affairs.
