Week 5 Assignment

There is a new purification method for recombinant proteins that has been developed that is able to remove an affinity tag by inducing auto-cleavage.[3] The new method utilizes the multiple domains of Ssp DnaB split Intein, and avoids the issue of premature cleaving of the proteins that have been tagged and expressed.[3] According to a 2013 Shah article, "Split inteins are a class of naturally occurring proteins that carry out protein splicing in trans."[4]
