Gurman is currently Senior Editor and Ace Reporter at 9to5Mac.[1] In addition to blogging, Mark has created several applications for Apple's iOS, which are currently available in the Apple App Store.[2] Throughout his career at 9to5Mac, Mark has broken many stories which have caused waves in the Apple community, and all over the web.[3] Most notably, in a post on 9toMac, he correctly revealed many key details surrounding Apple's then yet to be released smartphone, the iPhone 4S. Mark also participates actively on the social network Twitter, where he can be found tweeting about various topics, most notably Apple.

9to5Mac

[edit]

9to5Mac.com is an Apple news website written by various bloggers from New York, Los Angeles, and Europe. According to their official website, 9to5Mac states that their mission is: "To break Apple news quicker, more accurately and with more sources than any other Apple site."[4]

Mark Gurman officially joined the 9to5Mac team in December of 2009. Even after garnering a reasonable amount of success from his iPhone applications[5] , he had not yet broken into the public eye as a prominent figure in the Apple community. His experiences at 9to5Mac however, allowed him to propel to the forefront of the Apple blogosphere. In the past two years, he has broken many stories which have greatly shaped and influenced the Apple community. Much of his work at 9to5Mac is often shared and reposted around the web, spreading his influence and credibility as a writer.

Much of Gurman's work for 9to5Mac has gone viral online, causing quite a stir in many cases. Many of his biggest stories have come in the last year, including when he correctly revealed many of the details of Apple's then to be released smartphone, the iPhone 4S.[6] He also exposed to the public many of Apple's internal policies[7] , as well as breaking the news that the iPad 2 would come in white.[8]

iPhone/iPod touch Work

[edit]

Gurman first became involved with writing iPhone software in the middle of 2009, and focuses on writing several applications while he is on school breaks.

He became well-known on his release of You Are Rich, a mimic of Armin Heinrich's I Am Rich application.[9] He is also responsible for popular applications such as Air Horn for iPhone, and the Can You Hear It? Series of apps.

Currently he has 16 applications on the iPhone App Store, Air Horn, Air Horn Premium, Fire Alarm, You Are Rich, Can You Hear It? 3, Can You Hear It? Stealth, Can You Hear It? Colors, Can You Hear It? Classic, Quick Grenade, Quick Grenade Pro, Annoying Chalkboard!, U.S. Presidents, Air Sounds, Knock on Door, Fart Dialer, and Jobs is Da Man (Cydia Only)

iPhone App Rejections

[edit]

Mark has had several app rejections in the past for inconsistent reasons. The most famous instance was when his application You Are Rich was removed after one month of being on sale. The application cost $99.99 in the United States and showed a red gem to indicate the buyer's wealth, as well as having one powerful written and the powerful spoken mantras on the backside. These situations led Mark to create an open website for anyone to leave their app rejection stories. At one point, the now defunct site grew quite popular and was garnering several thousand views per week.
