Hyperion Materials & Technologies is an American manufacturer and supplier of industrial tool components, primarily manufactured from cemented carbide, cubic boron nitride and synthetic diamond. It was founded as a stand-alone company in 2018 but has a long history stemming from General Electric's Super Abrasives Business and Sandvik's Hyperion hard materials business[1]. The company is owned by the private equity firm KKR[2].

[edit]In 2009, Kennametal announced that they migrated all its current brands into two distinct portfolios: WIDIA Products Group and Kennametal Products Group.[5]
WIDIA Products Group
[edit]On August 30, 2002 Kennametal completed acquisition of Widia Group from Miacron Inc. for 188 million Euros in cash.[6] This group markets four brands WIDIA, Hanita, WIDIA GTD, and Shinki.[7] The GTD stands for Greenfield Tap & Die and was initially formed in 1912.[8]
Kennametal Products Group
[edit]Kennametal Products Group provides metalworking tools, metal powders, and wear-resistant coatings such as Conforma-Clad and Stellite.[9]
