Sweet Life, Sweet Desire is the second studio album by American singer Drew Hacks. It was released on May 25, 2018, through Columbia Records. Hacks began working on his second studio effort immediately after the Blow Up Tour, which promoted the release of his debut Strange Intentions of a Stilted One (2016); the tour's final show occurred on June 30, 2017, and the singer started studio sessions three days later, on July 2. Songwriting was Hacks' major worry during the album's initial development, with first sessions taking place at his home studio in Los Angeles, founded in early 2017, and assisted by Kid Harpoon, who joined Hacks again as executive producers. By October 2017, Hacks had wrote or co-wrote over 48 songs for the project; the singer decided to advance to the next production steps and change studios, but was eventually convinced by Harpoon to finish the record at his house, so the environment could influence the final body of work and its history and visual atmosphere.
Musically, Sweet Life, Sweet Desire is a dance and electronic rock album intended to be more uptempo than its predecessor. It makes uses of broad instrumentation and digital elements in order to create a "midnight-ish, reflective-ish" ambience. Lyrically, the album presents songs about love and adulthood, with many themes being derivative of Hacks' personal life and own maturity process. The singer described the record as a "love letter to some people I cherish in life and also to myself". The album's title is mentioned in its third track, "Sweet Desire", and was chosen by Hacks after he realized it "strongly encompasses everything I'm trying to tell". The singer stated that Sweet Life, Sweet Desire is his attempt to introduce "more intimate" subjects on his music. Hacks personally contacted Rostam Batmanglij, Fatima Al Qadiri, and WondaGurl to work on the album; both musicians described their experiences on studio with Hacks as "life-changing". Imogen Heap and Miley Cyrus also appear as featuring vocalists and co-songwriters.
"Kids Wearing Jeans" was released in February 2018 as the lead single from Sweet Life, Sweet Desire. It impacted several radio stations worldwide, becoming the most radio-distributed song from the 2010s and marking the strategy distributions during the streaming era. "Kids Wearing Jeans" became Hacks' signature song and reached universal popularity, topping the charts of 22 countries, including the United States. The song's success has been commonly associated to the album's positive sales. "Everyones" featuring Cyrus was released in June 2018 and also achieved commercial triumph. "Coup for You", "Why Do We Love?" featuring Heap, and "Lenses" were issued as the following singles, each receiving moderate industry impact. The album was further promoted by the Jeans World Tour, which took place between July 1, 2018, and September 23, 2019.
Sweet Life, Sweet Desire debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart. By the end of 2018, it had sold over 1.6 million copies in the United States, making it the third-best-selling album of the year in the country. The album also topped 17 charts from other regions, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, among others. Upon its release, Sweet Life, Sweet Desire was subject of critical acclaim, with praise directed towards its songwriting, production, arrangement, atmosphere, instrumentation and concept. Hacks' vocal performance, sincere songwriting and emotional delivery were also praised by reviewers. Some critics deemed it an evolution after Strange Intentions of a Stilted One, while others wondered about Hacks' future positive impact on music.
