Hampshire Scout Expeditions (HSX) is a county wide Scout group from Hampshire. Established in 1986 by Russ Parke MBE, they specialize in providing life changing international expeditions to explorer scouts; having delivered approximately 20 expeditions to over 300 young people since then. The group run expeditions to every continent in the world bar one & in 2007 was the first Scout group to summit Everest, celebrating the centenary of Scouting.

Expeditions

[edit]

Their expeditions are either 4weeks or 6weeks long, with them all following the same theme; a community project, an adventurous element & cultural exploration. A massive part of the experience is learning and developing an understanding of different cultures in the world and giving back to that community through a suitable project. With all of the expeditions participants get a minimum of 18months of prior training to ensure they are ready for all that lies in store. This training period is mainly used if the group are going to tackle a big climb or peak or if they have a particular tricky community project that requires and higher skill level than normal.

All members of expeditions are encourage to be as active in the planning as possible, not just leaving it down to the leader team. This is to again follow the groups ethos of developing young people in Hampshire and teaching them valuable life skills. All expeditions are personally fund-raised for.

Training

As well as specializing in international expeditions, the group also operate a number of training weekends for its some 200 members and Explorer Scouts from Hampshire.
