Scheidt & Bachmann is a family-owned company in the fifth generation of the founder family..[1] The company is headquartered in Mönchengladbach, Germany. Scheidt & Bachmann develops and manufactures devices and systems which are primarily applied in the transportation sector. Different service supplies complement its range of products. Four independent business divisions have been established. They serve different target markets with market specific products:

"Signalling systems" (founded in 1875) The signalling systems division develops, produces and installs interlocking systems (ZSB 2000 [2]), crossing systems (BUES 2000[3]) and operations control systems. The portfolio includes railway gates, signals, train detectors, etc. as well as the control and monitoring software that manages the entire signalling system.

"Fuel retail solutions" (founded in 1932) The Fuel retail solutions division designs, manufactures and integrates fuel dispensers, payment terminals, point of sales equipment as well as petrol station management systems for controlling and monitoring the dispensers, price displays, car wash systems, video surveillance, etc..

"Parking and access systems" (Parking systems founded in 1966; Access systems founded in 1974) The parking systems division designs, manufactures and integrates barriers, pay machines and parking guidance systems. Furthermore system solutions are provided which include the network structure and programs like the management system software.

The access systems portfolio includes barriers, pay machines and the management system software as well. Furthermore locker systems and cashless payment solutions for charged services like food and beverage are provided.

The parking and access systems division distributes its products and solutions under the brand “entervo” since 2008[4].

"Fare collection systems" (founded in 1978) The fare collection systems division designs, manufactures and integrates ticket vending machines, fare gates, validators, ticket printers and point of sales equipment. All devices are controlled and monitored by a back-end system.

These products and solutions are distributed under the brand “FareGo” since 2012 [5].

All four business divisions provide services associated with their systems and devices as an integral part of their portfolio.

History

[edit]

Scheidt & Bachmann was founded in Mönchengladbach as an offene Handelsgesellschaft (general partnership) in 1872 by Friedrich Scheidt and Carl Bachmann (bestowed the honorary doctor title upon signalling systems in 1930). The initial workforce comprised 8 employees9. The main products of the first years were textile machines and steam-engines. In 1875 the first mechanical signalling equipment was developed. In 1885 Friedrich Scheidt left the company, so Carl Bachmann remained as the only entrepreneur.

The first patent was granted in 1896 for a “drive unit for barriers” [6]

In 1914 Scheidt & Bachmann moved to larger premises in Rheydt (nowadays a district of Mönchengladbach) and extended the manufacturing. At that time the workforce had reached 500 employees.

After World War II Scheidt & Bachmann had to restore the company with only 100 of the original 1000 employees.

In the meantime for almost 30 years Scheidt & Bachmann has been an AG - Aktiengesellschaft (public limited company). In 1963 this changed to a GmbH - Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (company with limited liability) which lasts until today.

The microprocessor technology has been established in the 1960’s and marked the beginning of the software development at Scheidt & Bachmann.

This was followed by the establishment of service operations for hardware and software whereby Scheidt & Bachmann became a full service provider.

In 2019 Scheidt & Bachmann has more than 3.000.Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page).
