Morteza Vaseghi
[edit]Morteza Vaseghi is an internationally acclaimed Creative Director, designer, and publisher known for his multidisciplinary work across fashion, art, and music. He is recognized for co-founding the acclaimed Recens Paper and Wallet Magazine and for his contributions to the contemporary fashion scene.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Vaseghi was born in Tehran, in 1982. He began his creative journey with a degree in Graphic Design & Media from the University of the Arts London, laying the foundation for his multidisciplinary approach to design. To deepen his expertise, he later pursued an MA in Fashion & Costume Design at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, blending self-taught principles with academic rigor.
Career
[edit]Publishing
[edit]Vaseghi co-founded Recens Paper in 2014 with cultural entrepreneur Elise By Olsen, focusing on youth culture and critical explorations of art and fashion. In 2017, the duo launched Wallet Magazine, a publication examining the intersection of fashion, business, and culture. Vaseghi served as designer and art director for both projects, gaining international recognition.
Fashion
[edit]Vaseghi began a natural transition into fashion. Initially self-taught and driven by intuition, he immersed himself in the fashion and apparel industries, gaining valuable hands-on experience. These early explorations ran parallel to his publishing projects, as he began to refine his vision and develop a nuanced understanding of design, craftsmanship, and cultural storytelling. Over time, Vaseghi’s work within the industry became more focused, leading to collaborations and roles that allowed him to deepen his expertise. These experiences culminated in 2021 when he was appointed Creative Director of the Italian skiwear brand Colmar A.G.E. There, he debuted his first fashion collection during the Autumn/Winter season, further solidifying his presence in contemporary fashion design. His work reimagined skiwear with bold, hybrid designs.[1]
Currently, Vaseghi is developing his eponymous brand, "Morteza Vaseghi," which is gaining recognition for its experimental vision. He also serves as a mentor and creative consultant for different institutions and brands.
Artistic Vision
[edit]Vaseghi’s work is deeply influenced by surrealism and liminality through storytelling. His short film, Rite of Pass-Age, reflects on impermanence and transience through clothing and cinema.[2]
