Attestation or Apostille Attestation and Apostille are the types of Certification that are used for foreign interchange of documents and verification sources of foreign documents.

In India, the attestation and apostille can be done by the Ministry of External Affairs, the CPV division of M.E.A (Ministry of External Affairs) issuing the attestation and apostille.

The word attestation and apostille are diffrent and certification is also diffrent. The attestation is called general attestation which is stamped by M.E.A on any documents executed in India and which are needed to be submitted to the Foreign Embassies in India. the attestation can't be issued directly as per the rules issued by the M.E.A. The Indian documents that are needed for the General Attestation should be attested by the State Authority which is listed by the M.E.A. office as per the jurisdiction.

Similarly, Apostille is certified as the law of HCCH member countries, and INDIA is also one of the HCCH members. The apostille is a certification of a member country to be followed by each member, as per the law Apostille issued by one member country should be valid to another member country. and Apostille makes the Certifications easy for all the member countries, as now of apostille there is no need to get authentication or Superlegalization from the Embassies and Foreign missions. The apostille in India is issued by the M.E.A. as said earlier.

The process of Apostille is similar to above mentioned General Attestation Process, the one who needs the Apostille should authenticate his/her documents from the regional Authentication center as listed by M.E.A.

The attestation and apostille services by M.E.A in India are under the Private hands and applicants need to go by an agent or agency. The direct approach is not allowed in the Ministry of External Affairs for getting the attestation and apostille services.
