The World Development Indicators (WDI), compiled by the World Bank, is a database containing statistical data on over 700 development indicators which measure the progress of development[1].The WDI data is updated annually and covers over 200 countries in 18 country groups (full list of countries). The indicators include for example social, economic, financial, natural resources and environmental issues (full list of indicators).[2]

Accessing the data

The Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) provides the macro-economic datasets free of charge for members of UK higher and further education institutions. In order to access the data, users have to be registered which can be done here. Alternatively, the data is available to download on the World Bank WDI website which requires a subscription
