[edit]

Jon D. Ackelson is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, and entrepreneur.

Ackelson produced the film It Nearly Wasn't Christmas (1989). In it, a disillusioned Santa Claus (Charles Durning) quits Christmas. Through the selflessness of a little girl looking to reunite her parents for Christmas (and the help of his bumbling chief elf, Philpot (Bruce Vilanch)), Santa and the child travel across America and Santa discovers that people really do need him and care about other people.

Ackelson is best known for his investigative work producing the TV Series In Search Of...with Leonard Nimoy (TV series). He produced several of the series most highly rated and provocative episodes, including The Death of Marilyn Monroe, Dangerous Volcanoes (featuring the Mount Saint Helens eruption), and The Lincoln Conspiracy. Several of the episodes were produced with his collaborator/wife Annette M. Bettin.

In 2011, Ackelson co-founded IttyBittyTV, focusing on new media projects.

Ackelson was born in Denver, Colorado and presently lives there. --Michael J Clarkson 06:25, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
