The 2005–06 season was Rushden & Diamonds F.C. was their 5th season in the Football League and their 14th in existence following their formation in 1992.
Season summary
[edit]Barry Hunter was Rushden manager, having been appointed the previous season. In the summer of 2005, owner Max Griggs handed over the club and certain assets to a supporters' trust, along with an initial cash pledge.[1][2] He gave £750,000 to the newly founded supporters trust. "I feel very happy that I'm giving it to the right people", he said.[1][2] The 2005–06 season saw the club perform towards the lower end of the table. Hunter made new signings during the January transfer window, whilst also selling youth academy products such as Andy Burgess, David Bell and John Dempster. However, the club continued to struggle and on 29 April 2006, Rushden were relegated to the Conference after a 2–0 defeat at Boston United. With Rushden having been relegated out of the Football League, Hunter left by mutual consent at the end of the season, with Paul Hart named as his replacement.[3]
