Balázs Horváth (born 13 July 2001) is a Hungarian professional footballer who plays as a right wing-back for Championship club Swansea City and the Hungarian national team.

Horváth was born in Debrecen and played youth football in his home city and his second home town, Balkány before moving to England, to play for Swansea City youth academy. In July 2021, he got his first professional contract from the first team of the same club.

In August 2021, Horváth was called up by the Hungarian national football team and made his debut in October against Norway.

Horváth was born in Hungary's second largest city Debrecen and raised in a small town near his birthplace, Balkány. His father was a veterianian and died when he was just 10 years old, one day before his 11th birthday. His mother is a librarian and a former primary school teacher.

After developing in Hungarian youth teams, Horváth got his first opportunity to play abroad when he was 13 years old. English club Swansea City scouted him for 1 year and signed a contract with him in December 2017. Horváth played over 100 matches in different youth levels for Swansea City.

In 1 July 2021, he got his first professional contract from the first team. In his first competitive match of his career, Horváth got a Player of the Match award for his performance. On August 25, Horváth recorded an another prize-worthy display when he gave two assists to Michael Obafemi to win the match 2-1 against Preston North End. Horváth scored the first goal of his professional career on September 15, a 6-1 victory against Millwall. He scored again two weeks later in a 2-1 defeat against Fulham.

Swansea City beat rival Cardiff City 6-0 in the 12th matchday of the Championship season, where Horváth assisted one of the goals. After some quality performances, Horváth quickly became the team's leading figure with top scorer Obafemi and the two made a great friendship over their period at Swansea.

International career

Horváth played 31 matches for the U17 and the U21 sides of Hungary and scored 6 goals in these matches.

In August 2021, Horváth got an invitation to the Hungarian national team for the first time in his career but not played in the matches he got the invitation for. Instead, he made his debut on October 8 against Norway, a 4-1 defeat for Hungary. He covered over 15 kilometres in that match, breaking the world record since collecting detailed data.

Style of play

Horváth is originally a right wing-back with nice attacking skills. He has a huge stamina and sprint level and he can cover all of the right side from a defender to a winger.

Horváth owns a Yorkshire Terrier named Cherry. His favorite teams are Bayern Munich, Olympique de Marseille and Liverpool. His idols are Philipp Lahm, Thomas Müller and Arjen Robben.
