Paul Holleran is an English football manager who is currently first team manager at Leamington F.C.. He has previously managed Kings Norton Town, Solihull Borough, Halesowen Town, Rushall Olympic and been assistant manager at Sutton Coldfield.
Playing Career
[edit]Holleran started his playing career as a scholar at Birmingham City F.C. and turned out for both Alvechurch and Solihull Borough before two knee operations forced him to retire early and move into coaching.[1]
Early Managerial Career
[edit]Holleran started at Kings Norton who he guided to a runners up in the Midland Alliance and a cup win before moving on to Solihull Borough F.C. where he worked alongside David Busst, coaching at Borough before eventually taking on the managerial role. At the end of the 2003-04 season, Holleran joined Halesowen Town and guided them to promotion - with his former club Solihull Borough also gaining promotion that season. Under his stewardship, the Yeltz won the Worcestershire Senior Cup and also reached the first round of the FA Cup, but lost at Yeading F.C.[2].
Holleran then moved on to Rushall Olympic, and guided them to two play off finishes and the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history, where they lost 6-0 to York City[3]. Holleran joined Sutton Coldfield after leaving Rushall as assistant manager but lasted less than a year as Leamington offered him the vacant manager position.
Leamington
[edit]Holleran joined Leamington in November 2009, replacing Jason Cadden who had managed the club for 9 years prior to his departure. Having been able to largely continue the sharp upward trajectory which the club set off on in 2000, Holleran led Leamington to a play off spot in his first full season before winning the Southern League Premier Division title in 2013, and with it promotion to Step 2 of the football pyramid.
Managing in the National League North the first time, in 2013/14 Paul guided the club to a respectable thirteenth position. The following season, Leamington were relegated, but came incredibly close to bouncing straight back up in 2015/16 with defeat to Hungerford Town in the Play Off Final[4]. This experience drove the team on, and 12 months later a return to the National League North was secured through the play offs with a win against Hitchin Town in extra time at Your Co-op Community Stadium. The Birmingham Senior Cup was also added to the trophy cabinet for the first time in 45 years as they beat Wolves at Molineux Stadium[5].
Holleran steered Leamington to final day safety in 2017/18 and another thirteenth place finish in 2019, along with a second Senior Cup win in three years as they beat Nuneaton Borough at St Andrew's[6]. In 2019/20, Leamington were clear of relegation danger when the season came to a premature end due to the COVID-19 pandemic[7]. The following season, Leamington finished 9th in the table as the season came to another premature end due to the pandemic yet the season was declared null and void - stripping Leamington of their best league finish since resurrection
During his time at Leamington Paul has developed a reputation for helping strikers into the professional game, with several having successfully made the leap following goal laden spells with the Brakes including Colby Bishop, Josh March, Courtney Baker-Richardson, Danny Newton and Daniel Udoh.
