History

[edit]

Mosman FC was founded around 1945.

Little is known about the club prior to 1980. HELP NEEDED HERE

1980 - 1990. As with Australian football generally, the 1980s were a decade of stagnation. Player numbers remained in the range 400 - 500, and the number of junior players fell.

1990 - 2000. Mosman FC grew steadily during the 1990s, from 400 players in 1990 to 680 in 2000. The number of senior players doubled to over 200 and the junior divisions also grew.

Despite the introduction of ladies football to the MWFA in 1986 [4], Mosman did not participate in any of the female competitions.

2000 - 2010. Player numbers grew from 700 in 2000 to 1,250 in 2009 [5]. The primary sources of this growth were :

  • The addition of female players in 2002. By 2009, there were around 40 senior women and 170 girls playing in 14 teams.
  • The growth of O35 mens football. From 1 team in 2001, new teams added from other clubs, immigrants and ex-AL teams increased this to 7 teams and 140 players by 2009.

The formation and growth in the junior ladies divisions was led by Natasha Miller, up to 2005 when Denise Menzies took over.

Colours and Badge

[edit]

Mosman FC's colours are Sky Blue, with a white away strip. The club badge has a whale's tail and a football. This is a reference to the earliest (European) activity in Mosman Bay, which was used as a whaling station. [6]

Home Grounds

[edit]

Mosman FC plays its senior home matches at 3 grounds, Allan Border Oval, Middle Head Road, and Georges Heights. In addition, playing fields at the Spit are used for small sided games for U6 and U7 players. Juniors and mens matches are generally played on Saturday morning and afternoon and the ladies matches are played on Sunday morning and afternoon.
