Kyle Sanders is an American bass guitarist, best known as bassist for Hellyeah and Kerry King.[1] He is also brother of Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders,[2] who he has occasionally collaborated with.[3][4]

Biography

[edit]

Sanders started playing bass in middle school, he taught himself by playing along to his favourite metal bands.[5] His younger brother, Troy, also plays bass because of Kyle. His first notable band was the Industrial metal band, Skrew,[6]

He was an original member of Medication, alongside Logan Mader (guitar, vocals), Whitfield Crane (vocals), B. Blunt (guitar) and Roy Mayorga (drums).[7] This band recorded one album, Prince Valium (2002),[8] and one self title EP.[9]

He was a founding member of Bloodsimple, originally founded under the name Fix 8,[10] alongside members of Vision of Disorder. With that band he toured alongside Superjoint Ritual,[11] Static-X,[12] Soulfly,[13] and Avenged Sevenfold.[14] Bloodsimple dispanded in 2008 after Vision of Disorder reunited.[15]

After Bloodsimple break-up, Sanders co-founded MonstrO, along with ex-Bloodsimple drummer Bevan Davies and ex-Torche guitarist Juan Montoya.[16] This band went on hiatus in 2014, after Sanders joined Hellyeah.[17]

Sanders joined Hellyeah in 2014, as a replacement for Bob Zilla.[17] He joined alongside Christian Brady, who replaced founding member Greg Tribbett.[18] Sanders was also joined in Hellyeah by Roy Mayorga,[19] who he had played with in Medication,[20] following the death of founding drummer Vinnie Paul.[21] This band went on hiatus in 2021.[20]

Sanders is the owner of Let There Be Rock School in Gainesville, Georgia, where students from 5-70 are taught.[5] Sanders said that he founded this venture to get away from his touring life.[5]

In February 2024, Sanders was announced as bassist for Slayer guitarist, Kerry King's solo band.[1] Playing on his debut album From Hell I Rise, and single "Idle Hands".[22]
