RuneScapeWiki RfA

[edit]

I have an RfA on the RuneScape Wiki, and X1011 voted but mentioned you didn't come around often, and I wanted to tell you here about teh RFA. Sorry if I'm bugging you too much about the RS Wiki. Link, Hero of Wind 21:19, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Guess what?!

Stub placement

[edit]

Thaal - I thought I read somewhere that stubs go after categories so that the categories will show up first at the top of the page. Is there another policy I should know about or did I get that one wrong? Tedernst 18:35, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Okay, so do you know anything about the policy I think I read? Tedernst 18:51, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Maybe this is what I was thiking of (3rd bullet point)? Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting#General rules Tedernst 20:16, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
I don't need you to move it back. I've just moved some that were in your preferred placement and if you and I keep at it, we'll be duplicating a lot of work. I'll stop until there's some clarity from somewhere. I think I read it somewhere else, actually. No worries. Thanks! Tedernst 20:24, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Lavrenty Zagoskin stub

[edit]

Nikolai Rezanov died in 1807 and Lavrenty Zagoskin was born in 1807. Are you sure that Lavrenty served under Nikolai? --Feyer 20:44, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Happy b'day

[edit]

Hi Ryan, sorry for the belated wishes. I had an extremely busy week and couldn't log in to wikipedia on the 10th and 11th. I did remember your b'day on the 10th though. Regards and hope you have a great b'day, 59.183.18.168 10:14, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the message

[edit]

Hi Merovingian,Thanks for the message. Wish to contribute my extensive knownledge in fundamental and applied optics to the internet community. Do let me know if there is any article that needs a look at or edit. Cheers, Leenewt 05:56, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome + Question

[edit]

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I'm just wondering, I've seen some users who have had what are more or less "digests" of their talk pages. How would I make "subpages" for these as they have? I'm probably blind, but I can't see it in the help files. --Jason R. Rokeach 06:16, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the prompt reply. --Jason R. Rokeach 06:24, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

As far as I know, "Bandcruft" is not in WP:CSD. Not that it matters, but it'd be nice if you stayed within what we've voted on and ratified as policy. It's thoroughly possible that I'm missing something, but I was just running RC patrol, saw your deletion, and figured I'd throw down my 2¢s. Hope I haven't caused offense ;). Take care, Blackcap | talk 06:30, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

And thank you for taking criticism well. We're all here together. All the best, Blackcap | talk 08:18, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Could you please undelete this or it's other misspelled variant you deleted later? There was a complete nonsense article at this title before, but I don't think a list by People Magazine is speediable. At the very least it deserves going through AFD as I see no speedy criterion it fitst with. - Mgm|(talk) 08:35, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Here, take Sexiest Man Alive. and move it. It has a needless dot in the title, but it is better than Sexiest man alive. Thanks! - Mgm|(talk) 08:39, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Wikipediology

[edit]

I'd like to ask those fellows who have not indicated whether or not they grant permission for a wikibio on them to please do so soon. I'd also appreciate it everyone could expand or create the wikibios for which permission has been granted. The wikibio project simply won't be useful unless fellows actively participate; so I'd like to issue a challenge that each fellow contribute at least one sentence to two wikibios. I'll be on wikibreak for the next week and when I get back there will be prizes in store for the fellows who have the three highest edit counts on wikibios. Thanks. -JCarriker 22:53, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for creating articles about places/cities/towns. Please take the time to add interwiki links when possible, like for instance in the case of Gmünd. Happy editing, Punkmorten 16:18, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Nimrod and the Christmas tree

[edit]

Hi Ryan - some people will believe anything!!! - by all means add it if it's significant, there's plenty of other legends listed there, one more won't hurt. PS sorry I missed you b'day - belated Happy Birthday! - MPF 21:02, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism

[edit]

What's the best thing to do about persistent vandalism? E.g. 69.233.96.177, several time in the past few minutes. BrownBean 05:46, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for prompt response. Re: my fixing my mistake, I'm sorry I made it in the first place - painfully slow system response (Wikipedia servers and my telephone company) gets in the way. BrownBean 06:00, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

WoW wannabe

[edit]

Hi Merovingian, please watch out: the WoW-vandal that you encountered today, is probably a WoW-wannabe. He does not do regular page moves (like we're used to with WoW), but copy-paste moves. So to fix that, you only need to revert the change to a redirect on the 'normal' page, and delete the WoW page. No further moves are nescessary, as far as I can tell... --JoanneB 15:22, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome, no problem. Yeah, I've seen more errors this week than ever before. Very annoying! --JoanneB 15:29, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit]

Hi! I noticed you wrote the welcome greeting for User:Yaser_al-Nabriss. I noticed the pictures he submitted do not contain any copyright information (most likely due to a misunderstanding of the issue). Would you be the right person to ask to talk to him? I could also add all of the images to the no license lists but it would be quite a lot of work and also would be disappointing to see most of ones contributions deleted. Tinus 23:15, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

This list has been nominated for AfD by User:172.

  • Some would like to delete the list because it is "POV since dictator is undefinable"
  • Others argue that the page violates WP:NOR since agreeing consensually to follow a universal dictionary definition is original research. 'Nuff said.
  • Some have argued that it should be deleted because it is POV to call anyone a dictator. Which is actually a required argument for deleting this list when you think about it. Otherwise why not just pare it down to a common denominator?
  • Pushed into a logical corner some have argued that since POV could be added, the list should be deleted. Which would apply to every article in wiki.

Dictator is not a hard word to define - nor is it in any way controversial amongst dictionaries, encyclopedias, historians, the media or the public or on wiki, where it is used 27,700 times. So clear is the meaning that dictators and their supporters often concede the "dictator" part and merely add "benevolent".

It is long established that POV in an article is in any case no grounds for deletion - merely for its improvement.

People also seem unclear that NPOV is achieved through consensus not some theoretical construct that exists or not.

If there are such things as "dictators" they the list must stay, at least in some form. If it is deleted this implication is that describing anyone as a dictator is always POV. This of course would not only be egregious POV, but is relativism beyond any reasonable point, defies a universal understanding of a word amongst historians and the public - even David Irving.

The spectre of wikipedia refusing to list Hitler+Mussolini et al as dictators hangs over us. Please consider this matter.

Yours, Juicifer —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.214.77.87 (talkcontribs)

Pages not in English

[edit]

Hi, "It's in Japanese" is not a reason for speedy deletion, funnily enough. Please use {{notenglish}} on pages in foreign languages. Kappa 22:49, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

My userpage

[edit]

You seem to have reverted my edits on my userpage. I thought I was logged in while I edited my page; Opera seems to have a fundamental problem with staying logged in, since, again, I ended up showing up as anonymous. While your behaviour is understandable, I'm not entirely thankful. Aarnepolkusin 23:25, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

Thank You!

[edit]

Thanks for the welcome - I never did thank you properly for the welcome. I was surprised to stumble across a name for what I mostly do (WikiGnome or WikiFairy) ... love it.

I do try to add details to stubs, where I can...

Thanks again!

PS: I found the "tag" ussc for Supreme Court Citations, but I don't know how to find out the details about it, or if there is one to match other citations. Also, what are the details about the side tables (such as that present in Miranda v. Arizona and others)? I can put one in, but don't completely understand the details of what to put in nor how the WikiTable (?) works...
