Biography
[edit]Staffan Scheja began studying piano at the age of nine and made public concert debut 14 years old with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Herbert Blomstedt and also with Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in Jorma Panula. He studied 1964-69 at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm Gunnar Hall Hagen and 1969-72 at Juilliard School of the Performing Arts in New York for pianists Rosina Lhévinne , Ilona Kabos and Ania Dorfmann. In 1975 he was the winner of the international Busoni Piano Competition in Bolzano. He broke through as a teenager and became highly publicized as a "prodigy" and "the first-side name" and he has since played at the world's great stages with a host of prominent orchestras and director s. For several years he lived and worked in the United States and has also given concerts in the Carnegie Hall in White House and at several Swedish state visit
He is professor in the piano - and even Vice President - the Royal College of Music in Stockholm since 1997 and member of the Royal Academy of Music since 2001. He is the founder and artistic director for Gotland Chamber Music Festival, which is held every summer at Gotland since the 1980s, and then a few years, he is also responsible for Gotland Baltic Music Academy.
In 1995 he was awarded the Litteris et Artibus and a couple of his many recordings have won Grammy.
Scheja was one of the participants in the SVT 's series Stars in the Castle season 2008/2009. In August 2010, he was summer host in P1.
He is married to Lizzie, born Oved, and the father of Rebecca Scheja and Leonard Scheja with the former wife Marianne Scheja. He also has a son, then a previous relationship with actress n Agneta Eckemyr.
