Alexis Ren

Alexis René Glabach (born November 23, 1996) is an American model and internet celebrity. She was Maxim's cover girl for the August 2017 issue[1], is a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie for 2018[2], and has over 11 million followers on Instagram.[3]

Personal Life

Alexis grew up in Santa Monica, California and was home-schooled by her mother until she graduated in 2013[4]. Her father, Frank Gaylord, is a lawyer, and her mother, Cynthia Gaylord, was a health nutritionist.[4] Alexis’ mother passed away on January 8, 2014 from Colorectal cancer.[5] Alexis has two tattoos honouring her mother: her mother's birth date on the back of her right arm and the death date on the back of left her arm.[6]

Alexis is the third oldest of four siblings. She has two older sisters and a younger brother (Devin).[7] Alexis is of German and Russian descent[8] and grew up training 6-7 hours a day as a ballet dancer for 10 years.[7] Alexis claims that this classical training is a big influence in the way she poses as a model.[9]

In May of 2017, Alexis opened up about her eating disorder, saying that she was "scared of food" and in "a toxic state of mind".[5] Maggie Tanielian, personal trainer and health nutritional coach, helped coach Alexis through this difficult time.[5]

Although Alexis mainly shares pictures of herself alone, there are a few prominent people that are frequently featured on her social media platforms, all of whom have very large social followings.

  • Allie Michelle is one of Alexis' oldest childhood friends. The two grew up together in Santa Monica. Allie now lives in Kauai, Hawaii, but the two still visit each other every few months.[10]
  • Rocky Colbourne is a designer for the swimwear brand Colbourne, for which Alexis is a brand ambassador.[11] Rocky is also an on-the-rise photographer who often travels with Alexis to shoot her.[12] Rocky also films and edits many of Alexis' youtube videos.[13] The pair have grown increasingly close in 2017 and they recently celebrated Alexis' 21st birthday together in Tokyo.
  • Bryant Eslava is a photographer that has been shooting Alexis for years.[14] He frequently shoots the singer Cameron Dallas and in May 2017, he shot a campaign with Alexis and Cameron together.

Career

Alexis started modelling at 13 years old after signing a deal with Brandy Melville. At age 14, Alexis moved to Tokyo[7] to model until Nous Model Management signed her. Alexis was then immediately booked for a Seventeen magazine shoot.[4]

Alexis' career skyrocketed in 2014 when she began dating model Jay Alvarrez. The couple travelled the world together, regularly posting on Instagram and Youtube. Their social media accounts quickly went viral the two became household names.[15] Alexis and Jay split in late 2016.[16]

Since then, Alexis has landed her first magazine cover on Maxim's August 2017 issue[1] and has been named Sports Illustrated's newest rookie for the 2018 swimsuit issue.[17] Alexis was also asked to be a part of Calvin Klein's #MyCalvins promotional campaign.[18]

In September 2017, Alexis started a Youtube channel which has already accumulated over 240,000 subscribers.[13]

In 2017, Alexis launched her own activewear brand called Ren Active. The clothing line features workout gear and the 'Ren Box', a monthly subscription service.[19] Earlier the same year, Alexis collaborated with makeup brand ColourPop to create a line of personalized products which include lipsticks, bronzers, and highlighters. [20]

Inspiration

Alexis has repeatedly named Victoria's Secret model Candice Swanepoel as her favourite model and as a big inspiration. Alexis has mentioned that she hopes to one day model for Victoria's Secret as well. Candice was also a trained ballet dancer before becoming a model and Alexis bases how she poses off of Candice's techniques.[9]

Alexis has been the star of several commercials. Together with Jay Alvarrez, Alexis has been in Snapchat's 'Memories' launch[21], in an EXPRESS clothing commercial[22], and in a Hyundai Tucson advertisement.[23] In August 2017, Alexis became the new face of mobile phone game, Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire.[24]

Music Videos

Alexis made her music video debut in May of 2015 when she and Jay Alvarrez starred in XYconstant's official video for their song 'Silverlined'.[25] In February 2016, the couple also starred in Fais ft. Afrojack's music video for their hit song 'Hey'.[26] Alexis was featured solo in The Chainsmokers lyric video for their song 'Paris' in January 2017.[27]

Alexis played a small acting role in the 2017 movie 'Deported'.[28]
