Summary
[edit]An important event that happen during the 1900's was the starting of music. Jazz was starting to sprout all over the country, they named this time The Jazz Age.Jazz became to be because African Americans they found a way of express themselves, and this was because of the way they were being treated. Famous artist such as Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk,Dizzy Gillespie. All of these people made jazz either very much alive and jazzy. During this era technology was moving up inventions such as radio, and Television this helped Jazz to spread very rapidly across the nation.As more and more people heard about jazz the more the liked it and soon the majority of the people listened to jazz.
Jazz Era
[edit]During this era many instruments were being used by many different composers. Different styles of music calls for different types of musical instruments.[1] As we know jazz or music was played mostly in the city because of all the parties they hand and also concerts. [2] One of the most popular places to listen to Jazz was Harlem, a district on the Northern end of the island of Manhattan. [3] Most people didn't know that the Military had its band, Soldiers of the world have always marched to music, even if it was only the rhythmic tread of their own feet.
The History of Jazz
[edit]Jazz originated on plantations which means African American contributed on the start of all that because it was a way of expressing themselves. [4]The folk songs and plantation dance music of black Americans contributed much to early jazz. Ragtime was a big influence when Jazz was just starting to emerge from St.Louis, Missouri. During this era of music there was many famous Musicians, such as Joe "King" Oliver, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Scott Joplin, and Thelonious Monk. Louis Armstrong was a trumpet player who learned how to play it from King Oliver, he made his famous "Hot Five" and "Hot Seven" recordings (1940s-8) with which jazz became a solo art.[5]
Instruments
[edit]Many different instruments are used in making Jazz music. It can be one instrument by itself, or a collection of instruments together. Instruments such as piano, guitar, trumpet, saxophone, and drums are all used in the production of jazz. Jazz musicians had to be very skilled in their instrument, as they often freestyle their songs. The skill required to create melodies on the spot, while responding to the other players, put jazz at the cutting edge of music. [6]
