BIO

[edit]

Nicky Torchia is a happy 5th grader that loves to sing, dance and act. His parents are both musicians and he grew up on the stage watching his mom direct choral concerts and musicals at the local middle school. As a toddler he loved going to rehearsals with mom and watching the productions unfold. He was constantly entertaining everyone at home and in pre-school. Nicky was known to randomly break into song and dance from West Side Story throughout kindergarten.

By 1st grade he landed his first role as "Tiny Tim" in a local production of A Christmas Carol. As a 2nd grader he learned to balance school with the Community Theater roles of Young Tom of Warwick in Camelot and the Coroner in The Wizard of Oz. By 3rd grade Nicky began his professional acting career in the ensemble of The Music Man at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. This was followed by a summer with respected director Marcia Milgrom-Dodge in a production of Really Rosie at the Bucks County Playhouse, and top billing as Alex in the Dirty Empire Films short film Parable.

As a 4th grader Nicky earned his Actor's Equity card card playing Schwartz in the Broadway Tour of A Christmas Story the Musical performing in Hartford, Boston and Madison Square Garden, making many new friends along the way. This was followed by exciting appearances including a Munchkin in Broadway World Visits Oz 10th Anniversary Concert, Late Night with David Letterman singing back up for the group Foster the People and performing at the Toys-R-Us Gala as young Martin Short with Martin Short and Paul Shaffer.

Nicky was excited to end his 4th grade year with his Broadway debut as Young Charlie standby in Kinky Boots, winner of six Tony awards including Best Musical. He was honored and thrilled to perform with this amazing production as they warmly welcomed him into the company. He treasures the many friendships he has built in the Broadway theater community.

When Nicky is home between his professional bookings he returns to his “regular” kid life. He loves playing in his backyard, swimming in his pool, shooting hoops in the driveway, riding his bike and scooter around the neighborhood, playing video games, playing piano, jamming on the electric bass and jumping on his trampoline with friends. He attends public school and participates in his school’s music program playing string bass in the orchestra, saxophone in the band and singing in the chorus. He also enjoys participating in the local community sports program playing soccer and baseball. In addition, he returns to his community theater roots and fits in productions when he can. Favorite local roles include Kurt von Trapp in The Sound of Music and the Narrator in Into the Woods. His extended family, friends, teachers, coaches (and cats!) help him easily transition between his two worlds and are very proud of his accomplishments.

Nicky is very grateful to the many adults who are actively supporting his career. A special thank you for the professional guidance provided by his agent Nancy Carson, vocal coach Bob Marks, dance instructors at Molinari Dance and Step II Dance, and acting coaches Jen Rudin and Katie Cappiello. He is especially thankful to his parents for helping him realize his dreams.
