At the end of the event, Jeannette Donzella of Monagas crowned María Antonieta Cámpoli of Nueva Esparta as Miss Venezuela 1972. This was Nueva Esparta's first win in pageant's history. She represented Venezuela at the Miss Universe 1972 pageant placing as 2nd runner-up.

[edit]Replacements
[edit]María Isabel Vargas and then María Eugenia Manzanilla were replaced by Valentina Villegas as Miss Miranda.
Afternath
[edit]Controversy over Cámpoli's win
[edit]Cámpoli managed to win the pageant at the age of 16. The scandal arose when it was revealed that she was born in Isola del Liri, Italy, arriving with her family to Venezuela in 1964, so she did not yet have Venezuelan nationality at the time of her winning. As consequence, the incumbent president, Rafael Caldera, arranged for her to be naturalized and be able to compete in Miss Universe 1972.
