Rosa 'Handel', (aka MACha ), is a climbing floribunda rose cultivar, developed by Samuel McGredy IV in 1960. The cultivar was the recipient of the Portland Gold Medal in 1975.[1]
History
[edit]The McGredy's are four generations of Rose Hybridizers from Northern Ireland.
Description
[edit]'Handel' is a tall, climbing shrub, 10 to 15 ft (300—457 cm) in height with a 3 to 6 ft (91—182 cm) spread. Blooms are large, with an average diameter of 4—5 in (10—12 cm), with 26 to 40 petals. Blooms open from large, slender buds and are creamy white in the beginning with a light yellow center, and rose-pink edges. Bloom color intensifies in hot weather and fades in cool weather. The rose has little or no fragrance.[1] Flowers have a ruffled, double, cupped bloom form. Flowers are also borne in long-stemmed clusters of 3 to 9. Foliage is glossy and dark green. 'Handel' blooms in flushes from spring through autumn. The plant does best in USDA zone 6 and warmer.[2]
