Master Jun Hong Lu
Buddhism has been brought into China over approximately two thousand years ago from India. It has been formed to suit Chinese culture and character. The Buddhism reaches its peak in the Tang Dynasty, and even today many Chinese are still Buddhist. Guanyincitta (Xin Ling Fa Men) is a newly emerged Buddhism. Guanyin, the pinnacle of mercy, compassion and love, is a very famous and popular Buddha in China. Guanyincitta focuses on helping people change their life and resolve the problem in real world. Many people who followed Guanyincitta have benefitted from practice this Buddhism.
Master Jun Hong Lu is the funder of GuanyinCitta. He is also the President and Director of 2OR Australia Oriental Radio (2OR). He serves as the President of the Australian Chinese Buddhist Research Centre (ACBRC) and the Vice President of the Australian Council of Chinese Organisations (128 organisations in total).
In recognition of Master Lu’s tireless efforts to promote traditional Chinese culture, Buddhism, and world peace, the UK-based The Unity of Faiths Foundation honoured Master Lu with the ‘World Peace Award (Buddhism)’ and the title of the ‘Ambassador for World Peace’ in July 2012. The Unity of Faiths Festival was one of the events in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
In September 2012, Master Lu was invited to give a public talk at Harvard University. The talk received significant attention from the academics, religious communities, and the media in North America. In October 2012, he received the ‘British Community Honours Award’ at the House of Lords, United Kingdom. This award is recognised and honoured by Her Majesty the Queen for members of the British Community for their contribution to British Society. In 2013, Master Lu, along with dozens of heads of state, leading politicians, and religious leaders from all over the world, attended the 2013 Annual Conference on Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin, Germany. At the conference, global leaders gathered together to discuss the ways to make world peace a reality. In recognition of Master Lu’s contribution to world peace, the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy honoured him with the ICD Award for Exceptional Contribution and Peace Advocacy to the Global Community at the conference.
Master Lu has been greatly influenced by Confucianism and Buddhism since childhood, and he has strong passion for Buddhist studies and Buddhist education. Since he received guidance from several senior monastics and great Buddhist mentors, he has attained a deep understanding of Buddhism. Master Lu has been promoting the traditional Chinese culture and Buddhism, and helping people around the world for over 20 years. He has been honoured with the title of the “Ambassador for World Peace”, and revered by many as a great spiritual leader. As of today, there are over 6 million people following Master Lu’s Buddhist practice.
As a well-known leader in both the media and the Chinese community in Sydney, as well as the President of the Australian Chinese Buddhist Research Centre, Master Lu has been devoted to promoting traditional Chinese culture and Buddhism in Australia and other places all over the world.
In the meantime, he spends tireless efforts to spread the message of world peace. He helps facilitate the inter-cultural understanding among China, Australia, and many other countries. He also seizes every opportunity to make positive contributions to Australia’s development and prosperity, and importantly, the cause of world peace.
Master Lu is highly regarded by the mainstream society and was received by various ministers, as well as the current and former Prime Minister of Australia. Moreover, he received the city badge from the Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney. Master Lu has also met with heads of state and other leading politicians from China. Dignitaries including the Prime Minister of Australia, The Hon. Julia Gillard, the former Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Kevin Rudd, and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, his Excellency Consul General Duan Jielong, have paid visits to 2OR and met with Master Lu. Master Lu accompanied the 7th Living Buddha Tulku Drupkang of Tibet during his Australian tour. The tour was to promote Tibetan Buddhism and it consisted of a series of talks on Buddhism. Master Lu received initiation, blessing and guidance from the Living Buddha. Since then, Master Lu has been devoted to helping people understand the essence of Buddhism with his enhanced spiritual power.
In November 2013, Master Lu’s website reached 30 million visitors. Since 2010, in response to the invitations from followers around the globe, Master Lu and his Dharma Propagating Team have organised almost 100 grand public talks in more than 30 countries and regions including major cities in Australia, New York, Los Angeles and Boston in the US; Toronto in Canada. Master Lu also gave talks in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the UK, France, Germany, Denmark, Thailand, New Zealand, and Taiwan. In 2012, the grand Dharma Convention in Hong Kong attracted over 10,000 people to attend. In March 2013, nearly 20,000 people attended the grand Dharma Convention in Malaysia. In June 2013, 15,000 attended the event in Hong Kong. Today, Guan Yin Citta has a significant global impact—it has motivated people in every corner of the world to learn and practice Buddhism.
Master Lu’s contributions have also been recognised and covered by the international media, including BBC (UK), Radio France Internationale (France), People’s Daily Newspaper (China), TVB (Hong Kong), Phoenix Satellite Television (Hong Kong). As of today, over one hundred media agencies, including those in the US, Canada, Australia, Europe, and Asia, have extensively covered Master Lu’s activities regarding the spread of Buddhism and the message of world peace.
Master Lu promoted world peace, kindness, and compassion without reservation, and dedicates himself to community service and charity work. Master Lu has been involved in the Sydney Chinese Parents Association, Oxfam, and the Tzu-Chi Foundation. He also volunteered at a nursing home without a single day of absence during his five years of service. He has been constantly supporting institutions such as International Red Cross, Australia Stroke Foundation, Cancer Council, Vision Australia, and the Aged Care Association of New South Wales in Australia. He has made donations to these institutions to the tune of nearly A$ 100,000.
In 1998, Master Lu donated A$20,000 to support the Yantze River flood relief efforts in China. During the Sichuan earthquake in China, he organized a charity event and donated A$12,000. In 2011, during the Brisbane flood in Australia, over A$10,000 was donated. When the latest earthquake struck the Sichuan province of China in 2013, ACBRC provided relief supplies to the tune of A$50,000 to the affected areas. In addition, ACBRC organized a charity program aimed at helping poor students in Tibet. ACBRC raised over A$12,000 for that charity program. In November 2013, ACBRC donated A$20,000 to the Taiwan-based Tzu-Chi Foundation to support its disaster relief programs.
Millions of copies of ‘Buddhism in Plain Terms’ and other publications by Master Lu are available for free distribution in North America (US, Canada, Mexico, etc.), Europe (UK, France, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, etc.), Australia, Asia, and Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.). Publications are in both Chinese and English, and are being translated into German, Spanish, French, and Japanese.
