Day Number Two

[edit]

Weather effected a lot of players' rounds, but not Ernie Els, who continued his dominance of this tournament. Els shot a front nine 29 en route to a 63 and now holds an overall five-shot lead over Joost Luiten in the individual race. Luiten, who shot another 65 while playing alongside Els, dominated the greens, hitting 16 of them. Michael Sim of Australia was alone in third place after a 69 to improve to 10-under par. Shingo Katayama, who shot a 63 on the first day, shot a 75 to move into a tie for nineteenth. Marcel Siem of Germany (along with Els) had the lowest round of the day, shooting a 63 in the morning to move into a tie for fourth. He and teammate Alex Cejka (who shot a 68) helped the Germans produce the second lowest total of the day, moving them from sixteenth place to seventh in the team competiton. As for the Americans, Sean O'Hair leads in the individual category (at 9-under par) with Phil Mickelson one shot behind him after a 70. It was Zach Johnson, however, who shot a 64 to move to five-under par on the tournament after a first-round 75. It was because of Johnson's spark that the Americans moved up a spot into fifth.
